The union ministry of education is planning to launch the national IP (intellectual property) initiative. The education ministry is in talks with some other ministries and has asked for suggestions over the launching of IP initiative.

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank conferred that under New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the universities will be allowed to affiliate only 300 colleges, not more than that. This decision will provide more self-governance and transparency to colleges. He also mentioned that the affiliation system of the colleges will be phased out. The education minister made the statement while addressing a virtual session on “Education Post COVID-19”.
University Grants Commission released its new guidelines allowing the universities and colleges to conduct final year exams of students by the end of September. It asked all the states to compulsorily implement the guidelines even if they ordered the cancelation of exams earlier.
On Thursday Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo requested MHRD Ramesh Pokhriyal not to make final year exams mandatory. Arun Sahoo wrote a letter to MHRD Nishank requesting him not to make the conducting of final year exams of UG and PG students compulsory in Odisha amid of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Under the National Education Policy 2020, the cabinet decided to rename Human Resources and Development (HRD) Ministry to the Ministry of Education.
