NEP 2020: Universities Can Affiliate Only 300 Colleges

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank conferred that under New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the universities will be allowed to affiliate only 300 colleges, not more than that. This decision will provide more self-governance and transparency to colleges. He also mentioned that the affiliation system of the colleges will be phased out. The education minister made the statement while addressing a virtual session on “Education Post COVID-19”.

On Thursday Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo requested MHRD Ramesh Pokhriyal not to make final year exams mandatory. Under the National Education Policy 2020, the cabinet decided to rename Human Resources and Development (HRD) Ministry to the Ministry of Education. On Tuesday the cabinet’s decision to rename HRD Ministry got approval from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Now the HRD Ministry is renamed as Ministry of Education.
