OP Jindal University Tops Swachchata Ranking

 

Cleanliness benefits as well as is a matter of pride for those who are recognised. The Union Human Resource Development Ministry on Thursday released its first edition of the ‘Swachhta Ranking’ pertaining to higher education institutions in which OP Jindal Global University in Sonipat and Kongu Arts and Science College-Erode in Tamil Nadu emerged as the cleanest universities and college, respectively, in India.

A NUMBER OF INSTITUTES JUDGED ON VARIOUS PARAMETERS

A total of 3,500 institutions were a part of this ranking move and the ministry adjudged them on cleanliness parameters such as students-toilets ratio, modernity of toilets, availability of running water, garbage disposal, kitchen hygiene and kitchen equipment, among others. 25 Best institutions were adjudged by the government under four categories — university, college, technical institute and government institute.

In the technical institutions category, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, was the topper, while G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, stood first in the government institutions category.

 

AWARD CEREMONY

An award ceremony based on ‘SWACHHTA’ Ranking 2017 of Higher Educational Institutions was held in New Delhi in which Union Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar gave away the prizes to the awardees. Congratulating and speaking on this occasion, Shri Prakash Javadekar said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign by the Government of India, under which more than four crore and eighty lakhs toilets have been constructed in India since 2nd October, 2014 and more than two lakhs villages are now open defecation free.

The Minister opined that students are the ambassadors of cleanliness and the support of people and institutions will help them to carry forward the vision of Clean India of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said that in order to award Higher Educational Institutions smart campus status, our focus should be on cleanliness as well as waste management. And to make it happen, we should strive for saving water, electricity, promote cleanliness and manage waste to become smart campus. Shri Javadekar was all praise for the efforts put in by the various departments of Ministry of HRD for organising such ranking system which is in line with Swachha Bharat Mission.
