When there are few takers, importance of the object reduces because of its failure to meet the requirements of the concerned. Scrap courses introduced at various institutes have also met the same fate. It will be the end of the day for those centres and courses for which there are few takers. A circular has been issued in this regard for all those centrally-funded technical institutions including the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology by the ministry of human resource development who are into it.
The concerned ministry has requested such institutions to shut such branches and courses for which there have been few takers in the past three years. Further, these institutions have been requested to introduce such new courses and disciplines after analyzing market opportunity, employability and requirement of higher education and are in tune with it.
IITs and other institutions INFORMED
Minister of State for HRD, Mahendra Nath Pandey was replying in this regard to a written question in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
“All Centrally Funded Technical Institutions(CFTIs), who are a part of joint counseling have been asked to study the status of vacant seats in the last three years and to revise their number in each discipline after analyzing employment opportunities, national requirements, available infrastructure and scope for future,” the minister said.
“New courses and disciplines will be brought into force, only after an in-depth study of market opportunity, employability and requirements of higher education/ research/ entrepreneurship. CFTIs might also go for the closure of some disciplines or keep them on hold for a few years after following the due process,” he said.
