Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister Seeks Delhi’s Intervention In This Regard

While replying to a query of DMK member Govi Chezhian, Mr. Vijay Bhaskar said that “We want an exemption for seats in government medical colleges and government quota in private medical colleges and do not want the same for seats belonging to private colleges and deemed universities. This matter was brought for consideration with with Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar during his visit to Chennai.

This matter gained momentum due to the fact that aspirants were not pleased with the government’s decision of age limit for NEET medical aspirants. But the a central government employee had his version, he said that the capping of age limit to 25 is a good step which will restrict scrupulous elements from being a part of it. The Supreme Court will also pass the final verdict for age limit of NEET exam on March 31.

Mr. Bhaskar went on to say that we have taken up this matter, legally. It was the initiative and desire of the late Chief Minister Jayalalitha. She had promised an election meeting in Palayamkottai of adopting a resolution towards seeking an exemption from NEET. Now we have passed the resolution and have taken the Governor’s approval in this regard. And now it is in Centre’s court for approval.
