HRD Ministry Rename As Education Ministry After Getting Approval From President

The cabinet’s decision to rename the HRD Ministry got approval from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Now the HRD Ministry is renamed as Ministry of Education.

Under the National Education Policy 2020, the cabinet decided to rename Human Resources and Development (HRD) Ministry to the Ministry of Education. On Tuesday the cabinet’s decision to rename HRD Ministry got approval from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Now the HRD Ministry is renamed as Ministry of Education.

The HRD Minister Ramesh Porkhriyal Nishank expressed his happiness after the cabinet’s decision to rename HRD Ministry got approval from the President. He tweeted saying “Happy to state that the change has started happening”.

The renaming of HRD ministry rename as the Ministry of Education was a part of the National Education Policy. The NEP 2020 was released on 29th July. The policy is aimed towards bringing various transformational reforms in the schools and higher education systems of the nation. The National Education Policy is the first education policy of the 21st century.

The new education policy will replace the 34-year-old education policy of the country i.e., HRD ministry National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986. The National Education Policy 2020 is built on the fundamental of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability, and Accountability.  Also, the policy is lined up towards the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Further, the National Education Policy 2020 aims to transform India into a knowledgeable society and a global superpower of knowledge.

The New Education Policy (NEP) has brought several reforms in the education sector from school to higher education to teachers and adult education. One of those changes was to provide quality education along with providing industry-relevant education to the students.

Education Minister claimed that “It is not just a change of name but also the mission and vision of the ministry that has changed. Now more focus will be on education”.
