Global Rankings of Indian Varsities need Improvement

The current status of global rankings of Indian Universities need a huge improvement, said Pankaj Mittal, the Secretary-General of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). She said that with more number of students look for admission in overseas universities and more graduates joining the global workforce, Internationalization of Higher Education has become a necessity just as the truth of right now.

Referring to QS World University Rankings, she said that in the top global 100 universities there is definitely not a solitary Indian university. While in the top 200 there are just three from India and in the top 500 there are just nine Indian varsities. Likewise, 23 Indian universities found a spot in the top 1,000 rundowns.

Mittal was talking at a pre-occasion press conference in front of the West Zone Vice-Chancellors’ Meet planned to be held in Jaipur on December 11 and 12 at the Shipra Path arranged IIS Auditorium.

The meet has been inaugurated by Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra today. The guest of respect on the occasion will be the Rajasthan Minister of Higher Education, Bhanwar Singh Bhati.

The theme of the meeting is ‘Internationalization of Higher Education and Global Rankings’. The meet is being facilitated by IIS (Deemed to be University).

Purpose of Discussion

In the 2-day meeting, all issues identified with improving the quality of higher education and making it world-class will be talked about. This will be conceivable by guaranteeing result-based education, students and staff versatility, explore and institutional coordinated effort, global showcasing of our education modules and a huge investment in higher education, she said.

The Vice-Chancellor of IIS (Deemed to be University), Dr Ashok Gupta, said the students should be universally versatile managing cross societies and outskirts to have fruitful careers.

To give a smooth way to students, the higher education arrangement of the country needs numerous changes. In particular, we have to make India an educational hub of world-class quality establishments and enter the top ranks in the world ranking of universities.
