Education Minister to Meet VCs of Central Universities Virtually Today

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has decided to conduct a meeting with all the Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities today, May 18, through video conferencing to discuss the various aspects of education during the Covid-19 pandemic. Yesterday, the education minister chaired a virtual meeting with all the state education secretaries regarding the same issue. He discussed the promotion of students without exams and the school education system during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During today’s meeting with the VCs, Ramesh Pokhriyal will be discussing online education in colleges during the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in higher educational institutes.
Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal also discussed the discussed different strategies adopted for online and offline learning in schools in yesterday’s meeting and will be discussing it today with regard to higher educational institutes in India.

Importance of Continuous Learning Amid Pandemic


Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal insisted on the importance of continuous learning during the current pandemic situation and how authorities should ensure that education reaches the most remote and vulnerable areas in the country. He talked about several initiatives set up to facilitate continuous learning, such as the expansion of DIKSHA under PM eVIDYA; DTH TV channels under the bouquet of SWAYAM PRABHA TV channels; the launch of online NISHTHA training for teachers at DIKSHA, among others.

Many states have also taken their own initiatives to provide learning to students during the current pandemic. Several governments have started imparting classes through television and radio so that they are accessible to all during the lockdown.

The education minister also asked for the opinions of parents regarding the conduction of the upcoming Class 12 board exams. Many students and parents are pushing for the cancellation of the exams but no final decision has been taken yet.
