The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank declared on Monday that “final year examinations of the universities will be conducted by September end. The schedule of July is being postponed due to a jump in COVID-19 cases.
In an official statement released by the MHA, said “in a letter written to Union Higher Education Secretary today permitted conduct of examinations by universities and institutions”
Further, it conferred, “The final year university examinations are to be compulsorily conducted as per the UGC guidelines on examination and academic calendar for universities and as per the Standard Operative Procedure (SOP) approved by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.”

The MHRD’s order came hours later after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order. The order permitted the universities and higher education institutions to conduct the final year examinations. The only condition is that it should be as per the COVID-19 guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Special Examinations
The MHRD also asked the universities to conduct “special examinations”. It is for those students who are unable to appear in exams to be conducted in September.
Considering the prevailing situation this will not just provide another chance to the students but also ensure an equal opportunity to every student.
Speculations Regarding Cancellation of Final Year Examinations
This announcement has set aside all the theories which said the examinations for the final semester students will be canceled considering the pandemic situation. Also, has set aside the protest by the students against holding the examinations.
Students with Backlogs
According to UGC guidelines, “the final year examinations will be held by the universities and other higher education institutions by the end of September in either offline or online or blended mode. The students with backlogs will be necessarily assessed by conducting examinations in offline, online, or blended mode as per the feasibility and suitability”.
