Tripura University Vice-Chancellor caught on Camera by a local news channel.
Tripura University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar expelled by The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has designated Professor Sangram Sinha as the acting VC. He is a senior-most professor of Botany department.
An official head said he is designated after removal of Professor Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar, Tripura University (Central) Vice-Chancellor (VC). As he has allegation for corruption charges.
“The MHRD has removed Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar and appointed Sangram Sinha as the acting VC. He has forced to hand over the charge to Sangram Sinha on Saturday night despite being on a holiday,” an official of top Tripura University, a Central varsity
An official told, Professor V L Dharurkar, before designated as the Vice-Chancellor Tripura University last year in month July was a professor of Marathwada University in Maharashtra. He was heading Mass Communication and Journalism at the same university.
On Sunday he left Agartala and moved for his home in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
“I was under treatment in a Kolkata hospital. Yesterday (Saturday), I was asked by the MHRD to take over the charge of acting VC before I hurriedly returned to Agartala to do so.” VC Sangram Sinha
“Now the MHRD would select a new VC following the necessary formalities. It might take a few months,”

“Caught on camera allegedly accepting bribes from a Kolkata-based printing firm in exchange for a bid of a contract worth Rs 60 lakh”.
A News Regional New Channel “News Vanguard” on the cable TV broadcast a video filmed by them. In this Video appears to show that Tripura University Vice-chancellor was discussing a 10% of “Cut Money” (Bribe) for a deal for printing Job.
While VC Dharukar and another man were sitting in another Video Footage. In this room only it showed an exchange of currency notes bundles from one bag to other.
Defence for Allegations on VC
However, the present Registrar of the University Professor Sukanta Banikstrongly denied all the allegations. On Friday he gives the above statement and claimed that all video footage had been altered.

It was listed by the regional media that Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharukar was also an activist of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student group connected with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Also, Dharukar was accused of siphoning of Tripura University reserves for non-academic purposes including the procurement of lands and recruitment of the large number of guest teachers without the consent of the University Grants Commission and MHRD.
Other Arrests
Moti Kapoor M Moon, One of the guest teachers in University also from Maharashtra, was caught by the police last month for attacking the office and attacking two reporters of regional leading English daily “Tripura Times”.
Months after his appointment as Tripura University VC he was criticised. He had hoisted the ABVP flag in an event at the university campus. In his defence, he said that ABVP is a cultural organisation.
A student organisation affiliated to the Congress, The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) asked a suo-moto probe and arrest of Dharukar.
“During the one year tenure of Dharukar so many crimes including rapes and attacks took place in the University campus, but Dharukar did not take any action due to political biases,” NSUI President Rakesh Das
Despite many efforts, Dharukar declined to speak to the media.

In 1987 the present Tripura University was set up by the Tripura government. It changed to a central university year 2007. There are some students in the university from neighbouring Bangladesh.
