Tamil Nadu was leading in higher education in India, with many innovative schemes and programs being implemented by the government said minister Sellur K Raju.
WHAT TAMIL NADU MINISTER CLAIMS
Speaking at a function organised to distribute free laptops to 2,662 students at a cost of Rs 4.25 crore on Friday, he said that the AIADMK government had given away free laptops to 32.67 lakh students in the past five years. No other government has done so much for the student community, in a move to enhance their learning. He said that 12,448 students in the Madurai corporation schools had been given free laptops in the last five years.
It was Amma’s government which was committed to uplifting women and also gave them 50 per cent reservation in the local bodies. Gone were the days when girls were confined to their homes and education was beyond their means. Six out of the ten mayors in the state had been women, which was an achievement, he said.
MEASURES TAKEN
Many steps had been taken to improve the infrastructure of the corporation schools in Madurai. Photo identity cards have been issued to 16,207 students of these schools in the academic year 2017-2018.
Smart classrooms, which be installed in three schools, would equip students to face all competitive examinations including NEET with confidence, he said.
Students should try to excel in their studies and reach their goals in life and become great leaders like late president APJ Abdul Kalam, he added.
