DU’s Academic Council Meeting on Feb 9 to Discuss Implementation of NEP in UG Curriculum

Delhi University will hold its Academic Council meeting on February 9 to discuss the implementation of an undergraduate curriculum framework based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, officials from the varsity have said.

On January 21, the varsity had released a draft Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 (UGCF-2022) formulated in accordance with the NEP 2020 and sought feedback from stakeholders, including parents and academicians.

The stakeholders had time till January 31 to submit their feedback. The UGCF had also proposed the implementation of a four-year undergraduate programme.

The Draft UGCF is being circulated among the stakeholders as well as placed on the website of the University (www.du.ac.in) for the purpose of seeking views from all the stakeholders with special reference to students, parents, academicians, recruiters among others, through a Google Form,

    A Notification from DU stated.

NEP 2020 is aimed at making higher education more utility-based to prepare students for the industry. To ensure what is being taught translates to applicable skills, multiple changes are to be implemented in higher education in the coming years.

However, the changes suggested in the draft prepared by DU have not gone down well with some teachers. Many of them have pointed out flaws in the new system.

According to a senior office-bearer in the University of Delhi, “The academic council meeting will discuss the implementation of the UGCF and any minor changes if required. The university has cleared the apprehensions of stakeholders by stating that the workload of teachers won’t be reduced.

An academic council member said the detailed agenda of the meeting had not been sent but a circular said that it will consider the undergraduate curriculum framework based on NEP.

Academic Council member Mithuraaj Dhusiya said this is the fourth such template floated by the DU within this last year in order to introduce the NEP with effect from academic year 2022-23. Each draft has varied widely on fundamentals such as course structure, he added.
