    Higher Education Institutions Felicitated AT Conclave For Excellence

    Lauding higher education institutions from Tamil Nadu which had secured top ranks in the seventh edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Governor R.N. Ravi said that the achievement was possible because of their initiative, dedication, commitment, and managerial skills as well as teamwork.

    He was speaking at the inauguration of the Conclave of Excellence in Higher Education in Tamil Nadu held at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Universities and colleges which had secured top ranks in the NIRF 2022 gave presentations on the methodology and strategy adopted to achieve excellence.

    “The recognition that these higher education institutions have received has shown our state in a good light. We need more institutions in Tamil Nadu to go up in ranking in the future, and it is important to compete with ourselves,” said Mr. Ravi, addressing representatives from these institutions.

    Speaking about the conclave, Mr. Ravi said that it was important for these institutions to come forward and share their experiences, and how they have worked towards this achievement so that everyone can learn and continue growing.

    11 institutions, which had secured top ranks across categories were felicitated at the inauguration of the conclave. This included IIT Madras, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Presidency College, Chennai, Loyola College, Chennai, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai and JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty.

    Speaking about how colleges from Tamil Nadu have bagged nearly 163 ranks of the 1,000 in the NIRF 2022 list, Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudy said that Tamil Nadu was consistently excelling in both the number of students enrolling for higher education as well as the quality of education.

    Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramaniam lauded Presidency College for being recognised among the top colleges in India. “Medical colleges in Tamil Nadu including Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and CMC, Vellore have done very well too. I would also like to mention Madras Medical College, which has been ranked 12 among medical colleges,” he said.

    IIT Roorkee Celebrates 175 Years of Excellence

    IIT Roorkee began its journey in 1847 as the first engineering college in the British Empire and has since progressed rapidly with many initiatives in engineering education, research, and development. The institute celebrated the 175th year of excellence on November 25, 2021, in the presence of the Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan as the chief guest.

    Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated IIT Roorkee for achieving this milestone. He said that IIT Roorkee has not only been the pioneer in the field of research and innovation but also fostered an academic-industry relationship for the larger interest of society and the nation,

    He also congratulated the alumni of IIT Roorkee for making distinguished contributions to its reverberating effects nationally and globally and wished for their continued success. He attended the event virtually.

    Events during the celebration of 175 years of excellence

    During the ceremony, IIT Roorkee launched its innovative research capacity by engaging with Higher education institutes (HEIs) around IIT Roorkee and inviting children from schools to visit IIT Roorkee to enhance the exchange of knowledge and add value to society for students to experience IIT Roorkee.

    Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, also launched the web page for IIT Roorkee’s 175-year celebration under the tagline ‘IITR@175 initiatives- Leading the future. Other activities were launched, such as ‘One day Tours for students of nearby schools to IIT Roorkee’, and the launch of the ‘Biodiversity report’ prepared by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

    Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “Today is a day to renew our efforts so that we can continue to grow, continue to improve our standing among our peers on the global stage.

    On inaugurating two high-impact projects, he said,” I am happy to share that in our 175th year, we will be inaugurating two high projects.’

    The first one is a 1.3 PetaFLOPS supercomputing facility as a part of the national supercomputing mission and the second project is a SCADA-based Smart Energy Management System, which will establish an integrated monitoring analytics and control center for systems ranging from energy assets to transport, water and waste,

    He added.

    He was also very happy that they were laying the foundation stone for a new hostel and a building for the chemistry department.

    IIT Roorkee inaugurated six new infrastructure projects

    Marking its 175th foundation day ceremony, IIT Roorkee also witnessed the inauguration and foundation stone laying of six new infrastructure projects.

    The institute has also launched an initiative focusing on knowledge transfer for building a startup ecosystem at HEIs around Roorkee by offering mentorship and guidance with the possibility of incubation support by the Technology Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development (TIDES) at IIT Roorkee.

    Prof. Manoraanjan Parida, Deputy Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “IIT Roorkee has a strong entrepreneurial culture. The institute has many alumni who are founders of successful technological and social ventures in India and abroad. These alumni are playing an important role in maintaining IIT Roorkee’s legacy of excellence.

    Delhi Govt To Set Up 100 ‘Specialised Excellence’ Schools For ‘New Age’ Learning

    The schools which will focus on innovation, exploration and not on rote learning, are expected to help children explore themselves, develop and nourish the fields they are interested in.


    Days after the announcement of the setting up of the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE), the Delhi cabinet on Monday, March 22, cleared the proposal of establishment of about 100 schools of ‘specialized excellence’.

    The proposal was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia in his budget speech.

    The specialized excellence schools shall be focusing on four domains – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Performing and Visual Arts, Humanities, and “high-end 21st Century skills

    Reported The Times of India.

    These schools will be choice-based and cover grades 9 to 12, ie, the last four years in the 5+3+3+4 framework of schooling introduced by the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020. The schools which will focus on innovation, exploration and not on rote learning, are expected to help children explore themselves, develop and nourish the fields they are interested in.

    Currently, the Delhi government is running 5 schools based on excellence.

    We are going to live in an era of specialization and excellence, our children need an opportunity to be ready for the next generation’s challenges. Every child is unique and gifted, we want to ensure that they get the opportunity and the support to achieve higher success in their lives. Schools of specialized excellence will provide the right platform for our children to nurture their talent and excel in areas of their specialized interests,
