Women-Only Institutions’ That Topped ARIIA Rankings 2020

The first position in the women-only institutions category was attained by Avinashilingam Institute For Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, followed by Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, Delhi.

Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman AICTE conferred “Though the ranking was launched last year, there has been minimal participation for women institutes. Besides, those who applied did not find top spots in the ranking. Seeing some institutes featuring at the top of the ranking will certainly motivate others to participate and will provide the much-needed encouragement to the women in the field of innovation”.

Also, the reason for not participating in global or national rankings is definitely the lack of awareness among the women-only institutes regarding the importance of ranking.

Premavathy Vijayan, Vice-chancellor, by Avinashilingam Institute For Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, conferred “For a long time only IITs or premier institutes have dominated rankings, especially in the fields of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The introduction of a special category may improve the ecosystem and young girls will have more role models. It will also have positive impacts on admissions and placements.”

Although the number of women institutes which participated in ARIIA Rankings 2020 has not been revealed by the Ministry of Education. A total of 674 institutions participated in the rankings this year. However, in 2019 the number of institutes that participated in ARIIA Rankings was 496.
