    PM Modi Inaugurates New Campus Of BR Ambedkar School Of Economics

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the new campus of Dr. B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University here and also unveiled a statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution installed at the campus. At the event, he also unveiled 150 ‘Technology Hubs’ that have been developed by transforming the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Karnataka.

    The Prime Minister said Karnataka has a special contribution to India’s strides in the world of technology, research, and innovation. “In this context, the new Technology Hubs developed by transforming ITIs will provide skilling opportunities for the youth and create several employment opportunities,” PM Modi said.

    Developed at a cost of over Rs 4,700 crore, the Technology Hubs initiative is supported by many industry partners and aims to create a skilled workforce to address Industry 4.0 manpower needs. The state government has contributed Rs 657 crore out of the total cost while Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) and its industry partners contributed Rs 4,080 crore.

    The state has also spent an additional Rs 220 crore to create dedicated workshops and technology labs at these 150 ITIs. These Technology Hubs, through their various innovative courses, will provide high-skill training in cutting-edge technology and improve opportunities for ITI graduates in employment and entrepreneurship.

    Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, and several ministers of the state cabinet were among those present.

    The residential BASE University was set up in 2017 in recognition of the exemplary contributions made by Ambedkar to the development of independent India and as a tribute to his memory on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary.

    PM Modi said BASE University is a tribute to the intellectual prowess of Dr. Ambedkar. “The new campus of this institution will benefit several students. The new tech hubs which have been inaugurated will also be a boon for our ‘Yuva Shakti’,” the Prime Minister added.

    Ambedkar University Adopts Three Villages In Delhi

    The Delhi government-run Ambedkar University has adopted three villages in the national capital where it will organise legal aid clinics, medical camps and other events for the people, it said on Tuesday.
    The university has established an Outreach and Extension Division as part of its efforts to reach the wider community of Delhi, it added.

    Professor Anu Singh Lather, vice-chancellor of the university, said the institution has adopted three villages – Jawahar Camp, Chuna Bhatti and 5/35 Kriti Nagar.

    On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the university organised a programme at the slum cluster of Jawahar Camp where faculty members interacted with women and children and tried to understand their issues and challenges.

    Professor Lather assured the women that legal awareness camps and legal aid clinics will be organised by the university. The university will also organise medical camps in neighbourhoods which would help the children and the elderly. There are plans to start an ‘Academics on Wheels’ initiative to take the classroom to the neighbourhood which will include holding workshops on the Constitution, digital literacy events, entrepreneurial lessons, the university said in a statement.

    The university is also planning to implement a programme in which it will encourage its students to volunteer as mentors to students of the slum cluster to help them out. Dr Nitin Malik, the registrar, said the university will encourage initiatives and business ideas of women of Jawahar Camp and provide them with all kind of support.
