Important news for all those who are registered for the B.Ed degree courses in colleges affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and are scheduled to appear for exams in November.
The SPPU Notice
University authorities have issued a public circular to all affiliated B.Ed colleges. The notice says that owing to the paucity of students for the course, the university has been forced to club examination centres together. Reportedly, the course is getting extremely unpopular over the years.
The circular has asked the colleges to take the responsibility of informing students about the exam centres that have been finalised by the university. A list of the same has already been published.
The circular goes on to say that in cases where the name of the college where the student is registered or is studying is printed as the name of the exam centre, it will not be the actual exam centre — instead, a main centre has been selected and a students from nearby colleges will appear for exams there.
The Situation
For the last couple of years the unpopularity of the state-run D.El.Ed and B.Ed courses has become quite evident with many B.Ed colleges having to shut down in the past few years. The SPPU has also indirectly publicly acknowledged the dropping popularity of the course in its affiliated colleges. The public notice issued by the university states that owing to few takers for the course, the total number of candidates registered is very low, affecting even exam arrangements as well.
University’s Statement
Asked if this would lead to a confusion amongst students since hall tickets are already printed and students notified of exam centres, SPPU exam controller Ashok Chavan called it a routine practice.
