Teaching has been considered as a noble profession in our country. Teachers are known as transmitters, inspirers and promoters of man’s eternal quest for knowledge. Teachers have gained high place and reputation in the society due to those inborn teachers of ancient times that sacrificed their life for teaching. Initially only those persons were used to accepted or permitted for teaching who had inherent quality to become an effective teacher. Afterwards expansion of school system demand raised for good teachers and system of teacher training came in to existence. Through teacher training those are trained in teaching skills who are desirous to enter in the teaching profession with perfection. This trend is prevailing with the rapid expansion in the field of teacher education in different dimensions to produce effective teachers.
Galgotias University, School of Education is offering full time, regular and face to face two academic year duration (four semesters) under graduate program of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and post graduate program of Master of Education (M.Ed.) in a composite multidisciplinary University. In the Galgotias University B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes are being run, as required in NEP-2020, in collaboration with other schools/departments of the university such as Liberal Education, Basic and Applied Sciences, Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Nursing, Media and Mass Communication etc. University is also offering Ph.D. in Education program for research and development. B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs are duly recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under its Regulations of 2014.
B.Ed. is a pre-service professional teacher education program that prepares school teachers from primary to senior secondary level classes. M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Education programs are aimed at developing teacher educators, researchers and professionals for effective participation in educational activity in different areas. The School of Education is set up with the objectives of providing excellence in preparation of teachers, teacher educators, education professionals and researchers. We believe that the quality of the pupil-teacher is determined by the quality education, the knowledge, attitudes, values and experiences provided during the teacher training program. Programs offered at the School of Education are rigorous, comprehensive and dealing with practical realities of the career of the students. The school has modern class rooms, seminar halls, different resource centres, good collection of the books in the library and other advantages of the Galgotias University. Different curricular and co-curricular activities are conducted at the School and University level. Tutor-ward (mentor) system is being followed, in which the faculty takes care of the students at the personal level to cater to the diverse learning needs of the students. Long sessions of pre-practice teaching (preparatory teaching, microteaching, integrated lessons and simulated teaching), demonstration lessons, practice of teaching and school internship are conducted to help B.Ed. student-teachers to develop their teaching skills and understanding about concerned teaching pedagogies. Much emphasis is laid on achieving excellence in academics, sporting, cultural and recreational activities. A conscious effort is put to instil values in the generation next. During long School Internship sessions, in second and fourth semesters, our B.Ed. students get opportunity to work as an intern in reputed schools of Delhi-NCR.
School of Education also helps in the placement of the students. Our B.Ed. students got teaching jobs in highly reputed schools of Delhi-NCR. Our students successfully got government teaching jobs in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bihar state and U.P. state Basic Education departments. And many students have got job in reputed schools. Our B.Ed. students completed/pursuing their M.Ed. programs from Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer; G.G.S.I.P. University, New Delhi and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
In Master of Education (M.Ed.) program Dissertation work has been doing by the students in three semesters. This is helping them in better understanding of the research work and providing them sufficient time for data collection and dissertation preparation. M.Ed. students are being motivated for the research paper publication and it resulted in that each student has published two research papers and Book chapters before completion of their M.Ed. program in Galgotias University.
Ph.D. (Education) scholars within one year have published at least one research paper each, seminar paper presentations and book chapter publications. Those who admitted in the year 2020 have completed their course work and now focused on their research work. For Ph.D. scholars after every six months colloquium has been organising where they present their completed work and get guidance for the upcoming task.
Galgotias University is committed to follow National Education Policy (NEP)- 2020 recommendations. School of Education (SOE) has decided to start courses related to Coding, Artificial Intelligence (AI) for B.Ed. students from the session 2021-22 as recommended in the NEP- 2020 school section. These courses will help the B.Ed. students develop their understanding about these growing areas and got job in the schools.
