Renu Vig Joins Panjab University As First Woman VC

She has been appointed by the vice-president of India as the university’s vice-chancellor for a period of three years

Exercising the powers conferred by Section 10 of the Panjab University Act, 1947, Jagdeep Dhankhar, vice president of India who is also the chancellor of Panjab University, made the appointment for a period of three years.

Vig is an alumna of Punjab Engineering College (PEC). She joined PU’s University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) as reader (associate in professor) in the year 2003.

Subsequent to the resignation of Prof Raj Kumar as university’s vice-chancellor in January this year amid allegations of corruption, Vig, who was at the time serving as dean of university instruction, was appointed the acting vice-chancellor.

A three member search-cum-selection committee was formed on 21st March 2023, for recommending suggestions for the position. The new vice-chancellor’s appointment follows from the committee’s report.
