Platelet-rich-Plasma therapy in high demand at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital

Indore:Platelet-rich-Plasma (PRP) therapy has witnessed an increase in demand among patients suffering with multiple skin issues including hair loss at the state’s biggest government medical facility- MY hospital.
The PRP therapy is used for treating acne skin, hair loss, pigmentation issues and to fill skin in those patients suffering with skin ulcers, doctors said.
In this therapy, the doctors extract blood from patients’ bodies and then separate platelets through a specialised process and then inject it at the site for curing the patients’ issues, doctors said.
Assistant Professor, Department of Skin, MGMMC, Dr Rahul Nagar told TOI, “The demand of the PRP therapy has gone up in the last couple of years because of its results and no side effects.”
“The process is very costly at the private centres. So, people are walking to MY hospital for this therapy and treatment”, said Dr Nagar.
There are around 30 to 40 patients walking to the Out Patient department (OPD) of the skin department in the hospital for treatment. The therapy has gained acceptance with more and more research on it across the globe. Those requiring it are advised and undergo this therapy or otherwise cured with other treatment, Dr Nagar said.
Dr Nagar further said, “The department is researching on standardisation of the process to separate plasma from blood, which is now done institute wise.”
The therapy is available in public facilities at medical colleges with skin departments across Madhya Pradesh.
