Odisha government ropes in Edu Tech company to provide new age courses to girl students

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Coursera, a California-based education technology company, to teach and provide training on new age courses to girl students of the state.
According to the understanding, fellowships will be given to 2000 girl students from polytechnic and engineering colleges in the state to get different online certificate courses like data analytics, metaverse certification and AI. They can learn the value added and new age certification courses for free, said the official sources.
“Coursera is one of the world’s largest online learning platforms. A student can learn many courses through this platform and get employment in related industries,” said Reghu G, director, technical education and training, at the Odisha Skill Conclave here on Thursday.
Raghav Gupta, managing director (India and Asia Pacific), Coursera, said, “We are honoured to partner with the Odisha government and support their vision of building a more equitable society, empowering more women to unlock their full earning potential and thrive in the digital economy.”
He said they have created a career academy on their edu tech platform. “We have focussed on 30 job roles, mostly digital jobs. We have created content for these job roles. We have introduced industry micro-credentials (small qualifications) to help people learn new and targeted skills to get jobs. Companies like Google, IBM are teaching data analytics, while Meta is teaching software development,” he added.
He said some courses will take six to nine months for a student. One course has several smaller certificates. “We have video-based content. Experts from top technology companies will teach students,” he added.
The state government has signed a total of 12 MoUs with the Singapore-based ITE Education Services, Drone Federation of India and some of the global companies at the conclave to promote skilling and create a robust skill ecosystem with leading organisations and institutions.
