Mother's International School students win National Cryptic Crossword Contest


PATNA: Dhara Mittal and L Lakshmishree of The Mother’s International School, New Delhi, on Sunday grabbed the first position in the practice round of the 11th edition of the annual national-level inter-school CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest 2023, which commenced at 14:00 o’clock this afternoon. A large number of students from across the country participated in the contest.
While G Sanjana and K Sai Pranavi Pragnya of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School, Telangana stood at the second position, Avni Atul Aslekar and Atharva S of the SES Gurukul, Pune, grabbed the third top slot.
“The participants had time till 5 pm to submit their solutions. Marks were allotted for both correctness and the speed of submission,” Amitabh Ranjan, the chief operating officer of the Extra-C, a Patna-based civil society which organises the contest, told TOI on Sunday.
“In phase I, there will be three scoring rounds on successive Sundays i.e., 16th, 23rd and 30th July 2023. The online rounds are being hosted on www.crypticsingh.com. A participating team may register anytime till July 28, 2023. Registration is free of cost. Cumulative scores of the three scoring rounds will be taken into consideration for short-listing the teams for Phase II, which will witness a face-to-face online round and an offline Grand Finale in New Delhi towards the year-end,” Ranjan said.
“Students from across the country have registered in the contest. Registrations have also been received from states like Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Sikkim, Manipur and Meghalaya,” he said.
The Limca Book of Records has acknowledged the contest as the biggest of its kind in the country.
