Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a position among the top 10 institutions in India according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings-2023. JMI has made a significant improvement in its ranking, moving up to the 128th position in Asia, surpassing its previous rank of 160th. This notable progress of 32 ranks demonstrates JMI’s exceptional performance among the country’s institutions.
The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings evaluated the performance of 669 universities from 31 countries using the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings. However, these indicators were recalibrated to reflect the unique attributes of Asian institutions. The rankings considered the universities’ core missions, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook, to provide a comprehensive and balanced assessment.
JMI has consistently maintained its rank in THE World University Rankings and was placed in the 601-800 range in the previous edition, THE World University Rankings-2021. Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar expressed great pride and satisfaction in JMI’s achievement, attributing it to the hard work of the university’s teachers, non-teaching staff, and stakeholders. The recognition on an international level highlights the university’s dedication, and Prof. Najma Akhtar hopes for further improvements in the coming years.
Over the past few years, JMI has been continuously enhancing its national and international rankings. It maintained its 3rd rank among universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) – India Rankings-2023, released by the Ministry of Education, and notably improved its position by 13 spots, reaching the 12th position in the overall category.
Furthermore, JMI’s position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings-2023 showed improvement, moving from the 601-800 band to the 501-600 band globally compared to the previous year’s rankings. The university also climbed up in the QS Asia University Rankings-2022, released by the QS University Rankings Agency, securing the 186th position, an improvement from the 203rd rank in the previous year.
These consistent advancements in national and international rankings highlight JMI’s commitment to excellence in academia and its continuous efforts to enhance its performance and reputation as a leading institution.
