VISAKHAPATNAM: NTPC-Simhadri rolled out a four-week long empowerment programme – Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) for the girls from the surrounding government schools of NTPC-Simhadri plant, Parawada in Anakapalle district to train the girls in different skills. GEM is being conducted by the power major across the country as a part of corporate social responsibility.
GEM was inaugurated at NTPC-Simhadri by Ramesh Babu V, Director (Operations) and Vani Ramesh Babu, a senior member of Samyukta Mahila Samiti.
The GEM is targeted towards girl children in the age group of 10 to 12 years. During the four weeks workshop, the girls will be equipped with skills and knowledge in areas like Yoga, self-defense, basic English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, General Knowledge, and Life Science in addition to inputs on dance, drama, music, arts and crafts.
This aim is to expose these children to various facets of life, broaden their horizons and facilitate the development of social, emotional, and thinking skills, which will further help them to lead meaningful lives and add value to their families. It will also allow them to showcase their talents.
Ramesh Babu in his speech motivated the girls for their upcoming new journey of learning and training and mentioned that the GEM program helps girl children to nurture their creativity, sharpen psychological, social, and emotional growth, and makes learning a lively, engaging, and impactful experience.
