GGS Indraprastha University honours graduates and achievements at 15th convocation ceremony


NEW DELHI: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University held its 15th Convocation Ceremony recently, recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of its graduates. The event, presided over by Lt. Governor of Delhi and Chancellor of the University Mr Vinay Kumar Saxena, was a momentous occasion attended by esteemed guests, faculty, and proud family members.
A total of 28,195 degrees were conferred at the ceremony, including 24,181 undergraduate degrees, 3,833 postgraduate degrees, 32 MPhil degrees, and 149 PhD degrees. These degrees represent the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and intellectual pursuit by the graduating students.
The highlight of the convocation was the presentation of 87 gold medals to meritorious students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Among the recipients were Mayank Garg, who received the prestigious Dr BP Joshi Gold Medal, and Chetna Garg, honoured with the Sidharth Khitoliya Award. The medals were awarded to 54 female and 32 male students, symbolizing the University’s commitment to gender equality and academic excellence.
During his address, Mr Saxena expressed his delight at the University’s role in transforming the educational landscape. He lauded the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, which provides students with a flexible entry and exit system, aiming to reduce the dropout rate. The Chancellor also called for greater community engagement, urging students and faculty to take part in initiatives that contribute to the development of the local community and foster a sense of belongingness.
Mr Amitabh Kant, the Chief Guest at the ceremony, delivered an inspiring convocation address. He highlighted the tremendous growth achieved by India in the past eight years and emphasized the opportunities presented by technology and digital disruption. Kant encouraged the graduates to embrace hope, optimism, and a positive attitude as they contribute to making India a prosperous nation.
Guest of Honour Ms. Atishi Marlena focused on the values instilled through education. She reminded the graduating students of their responsibility toward the less privileged and urged them to work toward realizing the dream of making India the number one country in the world.
Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Mahesh Verma, in his remarks, commended the graduating students and outlined the University’s key achievements for the academic year. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to quality education, innovative learning, and the promotion of the Indian Knowledge System. Prof. Verma also highlighted the University’s recent recognition by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A++ ranking.
As Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University celebrates its 25th year of existence, it looks forward to expanding its footprint and offering even greater opportunities to the next generation of learners. The 15th Convocation Ceremony stands as a testament to the University’s commitment to academic excellence and its vision for the future of education in India.
