Indians, non -EU researchers to get new UK Visa Route.
A new UK visa route for Indians and Non-EU researchers, academics and scientists for working and training in the United Kingdom has been launched by the Theresa May government on Friday. This new visa will allow them to work and train for a maximum duration of two years.
This new visa route known as The UKRI science, research and academia scheme has been included in TIER 5 (Temporary worker-government authorised exchange) visa route which already consists of 60 categories including the Commonwealth scholarships and the fellowship plan.
With this new scheme, other research organisations operated by the UKRI will be able to sponsor more skilled individuals. The new scheme aims to encourage the ongoing growth of the UK research sector.
Caroline Nokes, Immigration minister said that science has a huge contribution to the UK economy and society and that the UK will continue to attract the best scientific and research personnel from all over the world. she also said that the UK is a world leader in research and innovation and with these new changes the international researchers will find it easier to work in the United Kingdom.
Mark Walport, UKRI chief executive stated that “ Research and innovation are inherently international, as are the unprecedented 21st-century challenges we must address. This new scheme will provide further support for international researchers to work and train in the UK”
