The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday announced that students who qualify for the Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost and Works Accountant (ICWA) exams will be treated equivalent to postgraduate degree holders.
The decision has been made at the request of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The announcement was made on the official Twitter handle of ICAI.
The University Grants Commission @ugc_india has resolved that CA Qualification will be treated equivalent to PG Degree based on requests submitted from @theicai. This will not only help CA’s for pursuing higher studies but will also facilitate the mobility of Indian CAs globally,
The institute tweeted.
The chartered accountancy (CA) course is run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the company secretaryship (CS) course is offered by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the cost and work accountancy (ICWA) one by the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).
CA, CS or ICWA qualified persons can also apply for UGC-NET as their degrees will be considered as a Master’s degree.CCM of ICAI Dhiraj Khandelwal tweeted, “Based on the representation made by ICAI, UGC approved CA/CS/ ICWA qualification equivalent to post-graduation degree. (PDG) . Wow. It’s a great recognition to our profession.”
Meanwhile, ICAI released the schedule of the CA foundation exam to be conducted this year. The foundation exam will be held on June 24, 26, 28, and 30.
The schedule notes the foundation exam for papers 1 and 2 to be held from 2 to 5 pm and papers 3 and 4 will be conducted from 2 to 4 pm. It is to be noted that all papers barring papers 3 and 4 will have an advanced reading time of 15 minutes before the exam is commenced.
