Goa Engineering College students to create app for police

Panaji:Goa Police on Monday launched ‘Creatathon’ for students of Goa Engineering College of Farmagudi, Ponda.
Thirteen teams of students enrolled for the event and have been given 20 days to create an E-Beat Book App.
The best three apps will be rewarded and after a security audit, the best app will be used by Goa Police as a part of its ‘SMART’ policing initiative, superintendent of police North Goa Nidhin Valsan said.
In continuation of the MoU signed between Goa Engineering College (GEC) and Goa Police in February, the Creatathon is a collaboration between GEC and the police aimed at creating an online beat book system.
Beat book is a collection of information that includes anti-social elements of a particular beat area.
Beat officers, who are generally the rank of constable head, maintain the beat book as a record. It also ensures supervision by senior officers.
The students from GEC’s IT department were briefed by Valsan and college principal M S Krupashankara, among others.
