GMSSS-16 Chandigarh felicitates students, alumni


CHANDIGARH: A host of senior bureaucrats, Army officers, businessmen and many other eminent personalities from different walks of life came together on Monday at their alma mater as Chandigarh’s prestigious Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16. The school management organised a grand event to felicitate its students and alumni. Former Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, an alumnus of the school, was the chief guest on the occasion. Education Secretary, Purva Garg, was the guest of honour. Other dignitaries of the education department were also present on this occasion.
At the outset, the Principal of the school, Bhavneet Kaur, welcomed the guests and read out the annual report. This was followed by an extravaganza of dance and music, which was set rolling with a welcome song by the students.
The tiny tots of the school enthralled the audience with their fairy dance while the senior students presented ‘Haryali’ song highlighting the need to save trees. Bedazzling Haryanvi dance was another attraction of the day. Dressed in colourful attires, the whirling dancers were a sight to watch. A solo act on Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Mirza song added different flavours to the function.
The cultural bonanza was followed by the felicitation ceremony wherein the toppers of the 2021-22 batch and the prominent alumni of the school were honoured. Applauding the young achievers, the chief guest, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, urged them to keep up the good work and take giant leaps in future too. Congratulating the alumni, he said they were fortunate enough to have got this opportunity to revisit and connect with their alma mater.
Education Secretary, Purva Garg, lauded the students for putting up a spectacular show. She exhorted the students to stay focused amidst various distractions and allurements and follow the right path. She suggested that the school should involve the alumni in the school activities particularly to motivate the students.
Deputy Director School Education (II) Ravinder Kaur appreciated the star performers as well as the teachers for putting in hard work to make the show successful.
The afternoon progressed witnessing the school’s journey through a marvellous photo exhibition put up on the tastefully-decorated premises. The magnificent spectacle of images transported the viewers to the bygone era which was relished by one and all. The alumni relived their memories and were left spellbound craving for more.
