Ashoka University appointed Dr. Shahid Jameel as the director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences. Ashoka University is the leading university in India in liberal arts and sciences.

On Wednesday, Ashoka University appointed Dr. Shahid Jameel as the director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences. Ashoka University is the leading university in India in liberal arts and sciences. The Trivedi School of Biosciences was launched at the beginning of 2020. The Trivedi School of Biosciences was initiated with bountiful funding of over Rs. 100 crore by Ashok Trivedi, Founder and Trustee, Ashoka University, and Managing Partner of SWAT Capital.

Further, the appointment of Dr. Jameel fortifies Ashoka University’s dedication towards research in the emerging domains of Biology and Data Science to address the issues of contagious and other chronic diseases. He will join the University on October 1, 2020.

About Dr. Shahid Jameel, New Director of Trivedi School

Dr. Shahid Jameel appointed as the director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences by Ashoka University has served for over seven years as Chief Executive Officer of the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance which is a public charity that funds biomedical research. Post that Dr. Shahid Jameel was a Group Leader for over 25 years, researching human viruses at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi.

Dr. Jameel has been awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Medical Sciences, which is India’s most elevated mid-career research award. Additionally he is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India.

Expressing his view on being appointed as the director, Dr. Shahid Jameel said, “I am delighted to join the Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University and look forward to building a robust program addressing key scientific challenges. There is a need for high-quality scientific research, especially health research that connects seamlessly to society.
