Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel released the action plan of Gujarat University’s Climate Change Center of Excellence in Gandhinagar. Under this action plan, Gujarat University has to carry out mainly five types of functions. With context to sustainable campus, Energy efficiency and waste management activities will be undertaken along with increasing usage of solar energy in university buildings-colleges.
Not only this, the establishment of weather stations along with other universities and educational institutions collaboration will be carried out on the topics pertaining to climate change. The action plan also includes industry-academia partnerships and covering climate change in the curriculum in all faculties of the university.
It was decided to establish a Climate Change Center of Excellence in one of the government universities of the state in the budget of the year 2021-22. One and a half crore rupees were also allotted for this purpose. In this regard, Gujarat University was selected for the Climate Change Center of Excellence after scrutiny of the proposals invited from all the government universities of the state.
A separate course on climate change is being run by this university since last 10 years. Apart from this, exploratory-research work has also been carried out by the university for degrees up to Ph.D. in various subjects under climate change. Now, an action plan has been prepared to further expand the scope of this Center of Excellence.
