Awareness programme on scrap recycling in Ludhiana


CHANDIGARH: A scrap recycling and waste utilisation drive was held in Ludhiana with industrial visits in Ludhiana and Mandi Gobindgarh steel clusters.
A conference on “Sustainable and Circular Bharat: Towards Zero Waste in Metal Processing” was also organised in Ludhiana. The awareness programme started with an address by Amar Singh, Secretary General, of the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI).
Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre, (JNARDDC), stressed the need for enhancing resource efficiency and promoting the use of secondary raw materials, particularly in the metal sector.
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations, the ministry of mines and ministry of steel have planned a series of events in collaboration with JNARDDC, Nagpur and National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) along with Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI). The two ministries have planned 75 programmes to promote scrap recycling and waste utilization which include 40 plant visits, 27 awareness conferences, 7 academic activities, and one culmination conference by July 2023.
