AICTE Doubles Engineering Scholarships For Women Students

AICTE has more than doubled the number of scholarships that it has been offering to women students for enrolling in technical institutions for the undergraduate level courses.

Every year until 2019 the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had offered up to 4000 scholarships for women students in engineering courses. But this year AICTE is offering 10,000 scholarships for women students in engineering courses. AICTE has more than doubled the number of scholarships that it has been offering to women students for enrolling in technical institutions for the undergraduate level courses.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the technical education regulator of the country. AICTE offers a scholarship named ‘Pragati’ to the women students who belong to economically weaker sections of the society. The students coming from the families earning less than 8 lakhs per annum are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Under the scholarship of AICTE named ‘Pragati’, the women students are provided 50,000 rupees per annum. The amount tends to cover their tuition fees and other expenses of their under-graduate level course.

The scholarship is available for the women students who pursue polytechnic, engineering, pharmacy, and architecture courses in technical institutions approved by the council.

Increase Participation Of Women Students In Technical Education

Until last year AICTE had been offering 4,000 scholarships to help women students coming from poor families. But from the academic year 2020-21, the council has decided to increases the number of scholarships to 10,000.

Additionally, along with offering 10,000 scholarships to women candidates starting from the academic year, 2020-21 AICTE has also decided to help women students coming from Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeastern regions of the country. The women students who apply for monetary aid, such students will be granted funds by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe conferred “In recent years, we have received good response for our Pragati scholarship scheme and hence we decided to expand the number to 10,000 this year”.

He added, “We want more and more girl students to take advantage of the scholarship scheme.”

The step to increase the number of scholarships granted to women students have been taken to encourage their participation in technical education. It has been seen that less number of women students enroll in technical courses as compared to male students.
To assure that the benefit of ‘Pragati’ scholarship scheme reaches more number of women students the AICTE has decided to promote the scholarship actively in the maximum number of colleges and universities.
