Governor of Rajasthan Kalraj Mishra dismissed the panel formed for the search of Vice-Chancellor (VC) for Rajasthan University (RU). The panel was formed to give suggestions for the next VC of the most prestigious University of Rajasthan (RU) to the governor house

On Monday the governor of Rajasthan Kalraj Mishra dismissed the panel formed to search Vice-Chancellor (VC) for Rajasthan University (RU). The former VC of RU, R.K. Kothari retired on 12th July 2020. The post of Vice-Chancellor in Rajasthan was lying vacant since July 12th. The panel was formed to give suggestions for the next VC of the most prestigious University of Rajasthan (RU) to the governor’s house.

The reason for dismissing the search panel is still not released by the governor’s house. A press statement issued by the Raj Bhavan stated that the decision was taken after considering the advice given by the state government.

Some sources claimed that due to some political disagreement in the state, the government decided to take up the matter. This step was taken to avoid the appointment of any unwanted person. Rajasthan University is considered the most esteemed University of the state. The government can’t take the risk of the VC post getting occupied by some unwanted person.

Also, in the last few months, many accusations were received by the governor regarding the malfunctioning of the panel.

According to the Rajasthan University Act and UGC regulations, any person in the sphere of education not connected with the university shall only be eligible to be appointed as VC.

CS Meena who was a former joint secretary in UGC and an eligible candidate for holding the post of VC sent a letter to the governor Kalraj Mishra. He stated in the letter that Prof PC Trivedi, who was a member of the search panel, was directly connected to the university. Prof. PC Trivedi was the head of the Botany department until 2006.

Another letter was received by the university registrar by GD Sharma. GD Sharma was a member of the search panel and UGC nominee. He raised objections stating that he was given short notice before the meeting held on 7th July 2020. This was intentionally done to keep him out of the meeting.
