UGC has barred the business school, which was established in 1981 and was accorded university status in 2003, from offering ODL and online programmes because of the gross violation of norms and regulations, an official said on Tuesday. The UGC has also alerted potential students from taking admission in programmes offered via the two modes by the NMIMS.
The decision about debarring NMIMS from offering open & distance learning and online courses was taken by the Commission at the 556th meeting of the UGC.

“Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Maharashtra has not adhered to the UGC regulations and is in gross violations with regard to the functioning of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), quality of Self Learning Material and e-Learning Material (e-LM), the nomenclature of Centre for Distance and Online Learning,” said UGC secretary Manish Joshi.
“The institute was also not following the fee refund policy promulgated by UGC and numerous continuous complaints being received against the HEI (higher education institution) from various stakeholders in offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes,” he further said.
The institute may be permitted to offer ODL and online courses for the academic session starting in July-August 2024 only after the inspection or on-site visit by the University Grants Commission and after obtaining necessary approvals from the Commission.
