NEW DELHI: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) will take less than two hours now to complete instead of three hours and the candidates will be able to check their release date of the score after the completion of the test, according to the Educational Testing Services (ETS).
ETS, which conducts TOEFL and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), released on Tuesday several changes in the English language proficiency test to give a prime experience to candidates appearing for it. It shall be noted that the changes will come into effect from July 26, 2023.
TOEFL is a test that is conducted to check the English language ability of non-native speakers who wish to take admission to English-speaking universities. The test is considered acceptable by over 11,500 universities and other institutions in more than 160 countries, including the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada.
As per the ETS, while the reading section in TOEFL will be cut short, the “independent writing task” will be replaced by the “writing for an academic discussion”. All unscored questions will also be deleted from the examination.
Candidates will be able to see their official score release date after the completion of the test, in order to receive real-time notifications regarding the changes to their score status.
The reduced duration of the exam will be 1 hour and 56 minutes. The 35 minutes time will be given for the reading section containing 20 questions, followed by 36 minutes time for the listening section containing 28 questions.
The speaking section will have four tasks and a time duration of 16 minutes will be given to candidates to complete it, and two tasks in the writing section to be completed in 29 minutes, officials said.
