LUCKNOW: The UP basic education department is all set to carry out a third-party geo-tagging survey to ascertain accurate information about the availability of basic infrastructure and facilities in government-run primary, upper primary schools and anganwadi centres.
The survey is in line with Operation Kayakalp – a flagship scheme of the government where March 2024 is set as a deadline to saturate all schools with 19 indicators, including electricity, toilets, drinking water, boundary wall, furniture etc. At present, 90.9% of 1.33 lakh schools have achieved average saturation on these parameters.
As per latest data, 99% of schools have blackboards, drinking water and girl’s toilet while only 48% have furniture and 57.6% have toilets for children with special needs (CWSN). Electricity connections are still missing in 5.4% of schools.
“The geo-tag survey will measure real-time gap analysis and help in decision making. This way, we will know the actual status of the schools against the claims they make on the online portal,” said an officer of the department.
Director general school education Vijay Kiran Anand has issued detailed guidelines to all the 75 district basic shiksha adhikaris (BSAs) for completing the survey till May 5.
A maximum of 20 schools will be surveyed by each surveyor through Prerna mobile application. The surveyor will collect the details in the presence of the school principal.
In his letter to BSAs, Anand said: “The survey is needed to strengthen the infrastructure facilities and timely addressal of the problem in schools. The BSAs have been asked to complete the survey to be carried out by special educators in a transparent and error-free manner.”
The survey will be carried in two parts. The first part consists of 38 questions while the second part has seven questions.
“The schools will not only answer the questions in yes or no but will also tell us whether the existing facilities like drinking water, toilets are functional or not. This will help us in fixing the problem,” said an officer.
