Vishwakarma University (VU) has been shortlisted in the prestigious global Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2023 under the ‘Leadership and Management Team of the Year’ category, a statement issued by the university said. About 700 universities across 16 countries were vying for THE Awards under ten different categories and VU is the only University from India and the youngest across Asia to be shortlisted. VU has been engaging with industry, government, social businesses, and communities, through its transdisciplinary centers of excellence, and serves as a living lab.
VU is among the top eight Asian universities competing for the award known as the ‘Oscars of Education’. The institution that demonstrates the greatest breadth and depth of leadership and management skills is awarded under the ‘Leadership and Management Team of the Year’ category, added the statement.
VU has been engaging with industry, government, social businesses, and communities, through its transdisciplinary centers of excellence, and serves as a “living lab”.
Joining hands with industry players, VU-Wilo Water Centre of Excellence has developed a vertical sewage treatment plant to serve the urban poor which will be deployed at 30 locations. VU Centre for Communication Development is working on the ‘Empowerment Communication’ model for marginalized populations. VU is the first private University to be selected as the Maharashtra government’s partner to train 6000 faculty and handhold 30 centres.
On the social business front, the University is working with Sahyadri Farms facilitating the collectivization of small, marginal, and landless farmers. The VU Legal Aid Clinic has been providing pro-bono legal consultancy benefiting 200 villagers and 1800 students from urban schools.
The leadership and management team of VU comprises VU President Bharat Agarwal, Vice President Wasudeo Gade, Vice Chancellor Siddharth Jabade, and IQAC Director Chetan Kapadnis.
