Raipur: An exciting teaching programme on Osteopathy is being planned in Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital and will be taken forward. This was stated by Dr Ragini Pandey, chief paediatric cardiac surgeon while describing osteopathy as an emerging branch. She further said that better Osteopaths along with better physiotherapists will do wonders, especially in paediatric cardiac care in the coming days.
The first International Osteopathy & Physiotherapy Symposium was organised in Sri Sathya Sai Sowbhagyam and was inaugurated by Dr Marco Pozzi, director of paediatric cardiac surgery, University of Ancona, Italy. He observed that Osteopathy is very significant for children and mentioned that he had fought a long battle with the Italian Government after which Osteopathy was recognized as a Specialised Medical Branch.
Remembering Dr Andrew Taylor, the founder of Osteopathy, Dr Marco Petracca, national counsellor & treasurer of osteopath, Italy, said that although a young profession; it will immensely benefit infants and newborns. He informed that 10-25% of Osteopathic patients are children whereas, the female-to-male ratio stands at 60:40.
Dr Accorsi Alessandro, Osteopath from the Department of Paediatric Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology, University Hospitals Ancona cited some important lessons of his research on OMT (Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments) case studies. OMT results in reduction of length of stay and costs in preterm infants. Citing his son’s case; he reiterated the fact that he was treated successfully by timely intervention on Osteopathy.
