    IIM Visakhapatnam organises the Andhra Pradesh sustainability conclave

    Visakhapatnam: Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIMV) hosted the ‘Andhra Pradesh Sustainability Conclave’. IIMV conducted the conclave at its permanent campus in Gambheeram. It was organised in collaboration with the National Productivity Council of the Union ministry of commerce and industry, the United Nations Global Compact Network India, and India Potash Limited as the industry partner.
    The conclave, which was conducted on the topic of ‘productivity and green growth’, addressed sustainability issues to promote green growth for a productive and sustainable future. The event featured renowned speakers, including National Productivity Council director general Sundeep K Nayak.
    The keynote address at the event was delivered by NGCNI executive director Ratnesh Jha. NPC Environment and Climate Action director KD Bhardwaj gave a technical presentation on the topic.
    On the sidelines of the event, IIM Visakhapatnam signed an MOU with the UNGCNI to promote sustainability and the United Nations sustainable development goals in the industrial hub of Visakhapatnam.
    IIM Vizag director Prof M Chandrasekhar said that the event signified the commitment of IIM Visakhapatnam towards environmentally oriented and sustainable value systems. “These value systems are central to everything we do – be it research, teaching, or consultancy,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.
    NPC director general Sundeep K Nayak said that the Union government is committed to taking its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW, meeting 50 percent of its energy requirements from renewable energy, and reducing total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from till 2030. “This will ultimately take the country towards achieving net zero emissions by 2070,” said Nayak.
    In his presentation, NPC Environment and Climate Action director KD Bhardwaj spoke about ‘lifestyle for environment’ or LiFE, which was declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Glasgow on the sidelines of COP26. “The all-inclusive green growth will improve the standards of living. Green growth will only be possible through sustainable practices, resource efficiency, and renewable energy sources. Green growth envisions a future with environmentally sustainable and equitable economic development, resource security, a healthy environment, and restored ecosystems with rich ecology, and biodiversity,” said Bhardwaj.

    Visakhapatnam: The National Productivity Council of the Union ministry of commerce and industry and Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam will organise the ‘Sustainability Conclave on Productivity and Green Growth’ at IIM Visakhapatnam on April 20. Indian Potash Limited (IPL) is supporting the conclave as an industry partner.
    The Union government committed to reach its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030 and ultimately achieve net zero emissions by 2070. “Lifestyle for Environment” or LiFE, as declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Glasgow on the sidelines of COP26, is indicative of all-inclusive green growth. According to experts, this can only be possible only through sustainable practices, resource efficiency, and renewable energy sources.
    Green growth envisions a future with environmentally sustainable and equitable economic growth, resource security, healthy environment, and restored ecosystems with rich ecology and biodiversity. According to experts, productivity and green growth issues are highly relevant to the state of Andhra Pradesh.
    The conclave will address sustainability issues and promote green growth for a productive and sustainable future.
    The conclave will be chaired by National Productivity Council director general Sundeep K Nayak. It will also be addressed by ICRO director Rajeev Ranjan, IIM Vizag director Prof M Chandrasekhar, UNGCNI executive director Ratnesh Jha, professor emeritus at Andhra University College of Engineering Dr CV Chalapati Rao, and NPC Environment and Climate Action director KD Bhardwaj. The event promises to be an informative and engaging platform for all participants to understand the importance of aligning business goals with sustainability and green growth and blending it with the way people do their businesses.

    Visakhapatnam: Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with IIT Delhi and the Indian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (INAIS), hosted a full-day paper development workshop for the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). According to IIMV officials, ICIS is a prestigious gathering of information systems academicians and practitioners around the world. In the context of ICIS, Indian institutes of national importance have been conducting a yearly paper development workshop in association with the AIS India Chapter to help Indian scholars and researchers.
    The workshop conducted at IIM Vizag received 59 submissions related to contemporary topics such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digital healthcare, cybersecurity, metaverse, quantum computing, sustainability, etc. These were reviewed by leading researchers from premier institutes across the globe. Out of all the submissions, the authors of 11 articles presented their work and received constructive feedback for further development of their paper.
    IIMV Dean (admin) Prof Anuradha MV explained about the institute in the inaugural session. INAIS vice president and faculty at IIT Madras Prof Saji Mathew and INAIS secretary and faculty at IIM Nagpur Prof Sujeet Sharma informed the participants about the origin and various activities of the India chapter of AIS and the importance of such workshops in fostering information systems area research in India.
    The keynote address for the event was given by Prof Arpan Kar of IIT Delhi, who talked about some of the best practices for writing a good-quality research paper.
    INAIS president and faculty at IIM Calcutta Prof. Priya Seetharaman delivered a plenary talk on thinking beyond publish or perish aphorism. This was followed by a panel discussion of experts, including Prof Shankhadeep Banerjee of IIM Bangalore, Prof Amit Shankar of IIM Visakhapatnam, Prof Saji Mathew of IIT Madras, Prof Sujeet Sharma of IIM Nagpur, Prof Neena Pandey of IIM Visakhapatnam and moderated by Prof Agam Gupta of IIT Delhi.
    Experts shared their research journey and the nuances of developing a successful career in academia. Paper presentation tracks were chaired by Prof Srinivas Josyula, Prof Bhavya PS, and Prof Abhishek Srivastava from IIM Visakhapatnam.

    Visakhapatnam: Self-management is key to emerge as the best manager, said former Union minister and chancellor, Rishihood University, Suresh Prabhu. He was the chief guest for the seventh annual convocation of Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam that was conducted on Wednesday.
    Delivering the convocation address, Suresh Prabhu said that self-management cannot be outsourced or taught in classroom or remote learning. “This is an externality to all the technical and subject knowledge you studied and acquired over the years. But in a way it is an internality that you all should master ” said Suresh Prabhu to the students.
    A total of 239 students of various courses received their degrees during the convocation ceremony. Gold medals were awarded to the toppers of various programmes, including Ayan Verma, Prapti Alok, Kunal Ranjan, Tanmay Gupta, Minhaz Ahmad and Ashim Chhabra, on this occasion. Apart from these, the Vani Row memorial gold medal has gone to Prapti Alok, while a gold medal for best all-round performance among the PGP students has bestowed on Ayan Verma.
    Suresh Prabhu asked the students to prepare for the externalities, which come announced and which the managers do not have control over at the workplaces. “We should prepare for the war during peace time,” said Suresh Prabhu. He explained the initiatives taken up during his tenure as the railway minister and the origin of Vande Bharat, which was initially named as ‘Train 18’. He also spoke about the importance of environmental, social, and corporate governance.
    Former IIM Bangalore director and member of Board of Governors of IIM Vizag, Prof G Raghuram, spoke about the transforming innovations happening in the artificial intelligence area. “These can change the way management education would be delivered. In these emerging scenarios, business schools like IIM Vizag have to figure out how the future workforce would look like and what it should be equipped with. A new breed of techno teachers and digital natives are all set to emerge,” said Prof Raghuram.
    IIM Vizag director Prof M Chandrasekhar presented the annual director’s report. He explained the achievements and the first-mover initiatives of the institute. “We are significantly expanding our footprint in executive education and management development programmes. IIMV is looking at internationalisation by tying up with noted global institutions. Many of our faculty are currently teaching at various top-rated international institutions. The institute is contributing impactful research work and several national missions. IIM Vizag is part of the PM Gati Shakti capacity building programme,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.

    VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam completed summer placements for the MBA 2022-24 batch. According to the Career Development Services (CDS) officials of the IIMV, the highest stipend stood at Rs 2.5 lakh for the two-month internship, while the stipend across the batch averaged at about Rs 80,000 (up 38% from the last year). This was the largest batch of 272 students being placed for summer internships at IIMV.
    IIM Vizag Director Prof M Chandrasekhar, said that the summer internships are a great opportunity for students to showcase, early in their careers, their creativity, analytical aptitude, problem-solving skills, agility, adaptability and how well they gel as team players. “The shared values and social and environmental responsibility that they practise and demonstrate will be keenly watched. This is where IIMV students will have a head start. As they are trained and grounded well in hard and soft skills, they will stand out in their performance. I am positive many of them will land plum final placement offers during their summer stints itself. The 100% summer placement results uphold the legacy of IIMV, with the students achieving the milestone despite the fears of recession,” added Prof Chandrasekhar.
    IIMV witnessed participation by new and existing recruiters spread across industries and domains. Held on a rolling basis, the summer placement season witnessed more than 110 companies participating in the process and making multiple offers.
    CDS Chair Prof Deepika Gupta congratulated the students for the achievement. “I thank our recruiters for exhibiting continued faith and trust in our Institute, making it a sought-after destination. With the fears of recession looming large, we were slightly concerned about the timely conclusion of summer placements. However, the students demonstrated excellent performance and the seemingly tough task was achieved with ease. I must place on record that the able support from the PlaceCom, CDS Office and other stakeholders helped us script this success story. My gratitude to the Institute family at large, for their contribution to this high accomplishment,” said Prof Deepika Gupta.
