Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal attended the meeting of the executive committee of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) yesterday, February 25, and announced that students of classes 6 to 12 will be given free textbooks under some new policies.
In yesterday’s meeting, the NVS discussed several issues and policies regarding education in this samitis. Apart from the Ramesh Pokhriyal, Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre also attended the meeting yesterday.
In the meeting, several topics were discussed such as providing students of classes 6 to 12 with free textbooks, free tablets for students in class 9 onwards, and ways to mobilize CSR funds to improve hostels and schools.
During the 40th meeting of the executive committee, it was also decided by the entire panel that alumni of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti will be “requested” to adopt schools in order to make the flow of education more systematic and proper.
Special Recruitment Drive in North Eastern Region
During the meeting, the key discussing point of the NVS was a special recruitment drive for the regions of northeast, Himalayan and Jammu and Kashmir, implementation of a new transfer policy from next year, and revision of recruitment rules for engineering cadre.

While talking about educational ventures during the 40th meeting of the Samiti, Minister Sanjay Dhotre also said that the infrastructure of the schools being set up under the new policies should be improved on a priority basis.
He also emphasized the importance of online education during the current pandemic scenario in the country. He said, “Post-Covid, safety, and precautions will continue. The spread of Digital education should look into aspects of access and quality.”
