The Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Vizag) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting a professional development training program for faculty members of technical education institutions from across the country. IIM-V is the fifth IIM in the country to receive required approval from the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) to offer such courses after IIM-Indore, IIM-Raipur, IIM-Udaipur, and IIM-Kashipur.
The initiative is being implemented by the National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) of the MHRD with the assistance of the World Bank. The ‘capacity building program’ will touch upon various themes of management, including finance management in academia, human resource challenges, time management, team building, developing a vision and knowledge management systems.
Speaking to TOI, director, IIM-Vizag, Prof M Chandrasekhar said that the capacity building initiative will commence towards the end of June at IIM-V.
On the other hand, IIM-V will begin classes for the first batch of the doctoral program in June. IIM-Vizag is the first institution to introduce a doctoral program among the seven new IIMs established after 2015.
The Indian Institutes of Management Bill, 2017, which came into effect from January 2018, allows the IIM-V to award Ph.D. degrees instead of the earlier fellow program in management (equivalent to Ph.D.) offered by IIMs.
