No more appointments of academic staff in universities across India.
In a recent move by UGC, all the central, state and the deemed universities that are receiving grants from the government or the commission were asked to postpone the process of appointment of academic staff, as a result, the appointments of academic staff in universities across India has been put on hold.
The move followed the petition that was filed before the supreme court regarding the implementation of the new strict reservation policies by government.
Prakash Javadekar, the HRD minister on Thursday told the Rajya Sabha that for the SC/STs and the OBCs, the government is committed to giving 50% reservation and the minister also said that they will not comply with the recent ruling given by Allahabad HC to have institute based reservations for appointments of candidates for filling the vacant faculty positions.
In reply to the opposition members, the minister said that they are hoping towards having the successful reservation for candidates from SC, ST and OBCs.
The ongoing interviews were immediately suspended by the Delhi University and the Allahabad University.
As a result of the UGC’s, March 5 notification that stated department wise calculation of reservations for SC/ST and OBCs posts instead of Institution wise calculation, the recruitment of over 2000 faculty positions has been stopped.
All the colleges that were yet to start the process have cancelled the interviews and the colleges that have already started the process have postponed the interviews.
