Tamil Nadu Class XII results: 94% students pass; this district tops pass percentage list


CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu state board Class XII students registered a 94% pass which is a slight increase of .3% compared to previous year. Of 8,03,385 candidates who appeared for the exam this year, 7,55,451 cleared it. The pass percentage is 94.03%.
Of 4,21,013 girls who appeared for the exam, 4,05,753 (96.38%) cleared it. As many as 3,49,697 boys (91.45%) cleared the exam. Girls registered 4.93% higher pass percentage compared to boys.
School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi released the Class XII results on Monday.
The number of centum scorers in any one subject has increased from 23,957 last year to 32,501 this year.
In accountancy, students have scored more centums with 6,573 students scoring full marks and it was followed by commerce (5,678) and computer science (4,618). In key subjects, more students scored full marks in chemistry with 3,909 getting 100 out of 100 marks. As many as 812 scored full marks in physics and 690 got centum in maths. In English, 15 students have scored full marks. In the subjects, computer science had the highest pass percentage with 99.29% clearing them.
Of the 4,398 disabled candidates, 3,923 have cleared the exam. The pass percentage is 89.2%.
Of 90 prisoners who have appeared for the exam, 79 have cleared it.
Among the districts Virudhunagar has topped with 97.85% pass percentage and Tirupur and Coimbatore districts registered 97.79% and 97.59% pass respectively.
After releasing the results, the minister said, the state government would give special coaching to the 47,000 students who are absent in the Class XII exam. He said the 3,200 government higher secondary schools will have the career guidance cells to handhold the students to higher educational institutions.
The minister also announced that the Class X and XI results are likely to be released on May 19.
