AMARAVATI: Stating that Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is a true Viswa Kavi (universal poet), Intach state convenor SVS Lakshminarayana has said that the students should read the works of Tagore. He said that Tagore was not only a poet but a freedom fighter who inspired millions of Indians. Academicians and students paid rich tributes to Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary on Monday at Hindu College, Guntur. Addressing the students and staff, Lakshminarayana said that Tagore was regarded as a mentor and scholar in many countries several decades ago.
He said that Tagore’s works were more popular in other countries including developed nations like USA and Japan while the students in India. “Tagore wrote novels, essays, short stories, travelogues, dramas, and thousands of songs. His works are frequently noted for their rhythmic, optimistic, and lyrical nature. He scripted the stories mostly reflecting the lives of common people. We should read him a lot to know more about India and the world,” said Lakshminarayana. He explained that Tagore’s travelogues, essays, and lectures were compiled into several volumes. He said that Tagore made the British worried with his works including paintings seeking Independence to India.
He said that many international scholars set up educational institutions by drawing inspiration from Tagore’s lectures. He said that several generations in many countries listened to his speeches with utmost attention. He said that Tagore is a true iconic personality on the world stage as he made many renowned western writers make note of his arrival on to the world stage. Lakshminarayana, however, deplored that the students from the presentation generation have almost forgotten to read literature leave alone the writings of Tagore. He said that students should spare little time to read literature of stalwarts to know the magnificent history, culture, heritage and knowledge that India produced. Principal Dr PMP Prasad, English department head Dr Balashowry, Dr Naveen, Hindi chief Dr Vijaya Ratna Kumar, lecturers Aruna, Beulah Rani, Telugu head Dr Yellapragada Mallikharjuna Rao and students were also present.
