KOCHI: Government Model Engineering College (MEC), Thrikkakara, and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (AKTU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotics. The Centre of Excellence will be set up at the MEC campus.
The MoU was signed by the MEC principal Jacob Thomas V and AKTU’s registrar A Praveen on Thursday. The MoU signing function was attended by minister for higher education R Bindu and AKTU vice-chancellor Saji Gopinath.
In a statement, MEC said that the Centre of Excellence will serve as a hub for research, innovation, and collaboration in these cutting-edge fields. It will provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas and facilitate the development of skills and expertise in these fields.
The centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and will provide a conducive environment for researchers, students, and professionals in the field. It will also offer training programs, workshops, and internships to provide hands-on experience and exposure to real-world problems.
“The signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in the efforts to promote research and innovation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics in Kerala especially at MEC. The Centre of Excellence is expected to make a valuable contribution to the development of these fields and to the advancement of knowledge and technology,” said the statement.
The Syndicate of AKTU has earlier decided to establish three centres of excellence of international standards to lead innovative studies and research in science and technology spending around Rs.30 crores. The other two are a centre for excellence on sustainable development and carbon neutrality in the campus of the Government Engineering College (GEC), Kannur and a centre of excellence on emerging materials and related fields at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology (RIT) in Kottayam.
