Kmscu: CM Pinarayi Vijayan to inaugurate KMSCU state convention


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the KMSCU state convention on May 25.A comprehensive study report on preparing the urban local bodies to cater to the needs of urbanisation will be released during the three day state convention of Kerala Municipal and corporation staff union. The 54th convention of KMSCU will be held from May 24 to 26 at University college.
The one day seminar to be held on May 24 will discuss the study report on equipping the urban local bodies in tune with the pace of urbanisation. The KMSCU state convention held in 2021 had finalised the action plan for the study. Mayors` council, Chamber of Municipal chairman, KILA and KMSCU have jointly associated in the study. A questionnaire was prepared and information was collected from all the corporations and municipalities in the state. The study focused on various topics like urban planning, entrepreneurship, employment generation, inclusivity, urban governance and the like. The feedback from the seminar will be compiled with the study report and will be presented to the state government.
LSG Minister M B Rajesh will inaugurate the seminar on May 24 at 9am. K N Harilal will present the topic on urbanisation and challenges. KILA Director Joy Elamon will present the study report. P Suresh, convenor of the study committee said that there is a growing need to assess the urban local bodies in the wake of urbanisation in the state and the study report is an attempt in this direction. Six sessions will be held centred on topics like resource mobilisation, service delivery efficiency, urban reforms etc.
The state convention is a key chapter in the history of KMSCU as it is being held following the formation of a unified LSGD service. The common service was formed by combining urban affairs, rural department, panchayat, town and country planning, LSGD engineering
