JEE Advanced 2023: JEE Advanced 2023: Around 1.9 lakh students register for Advanced

NEW DELHI: The JEE Advanced 2023 registration closed on May 07. Reports suggest that nearly 1.9 lakh students have registered for the next level of selection i.e., JEE Advanced.
As per the past year’s trends, the registrations typically lie at 1.6 lakh to 1.7 lakh. This year, the number of female students has also increased by 25 per cent, as compared to the previous years. The highest number of applicants are from Hyderabad, Patna, Jaipur, Vijayawada and Bengaluru. Also, over 100 foreign nationals have also registered for JEE Advanced 2023.
According to Prof. Bishnupada Mandal, JEE (Advanced) 2023 organising chairperson, “Usually, the numbers hover around 1.6 lakh or 1.7 lakh. This year, we have almost 1.9 lakh students. Probably the number of students appearing for Class 12 board exams has gone up too.”
He further said that the number of OCI/PIO candidates is high this year due to the one-time exception given to the candidates in JEE (Main) 2023.
Last year, the number of applicants for the JEE Advanced reached 1.6 lakh, as 10,000 candidates from the pandemic year were given an additional chance. In a surprising move, one lakh candidates did not register for JEE (Advanced) despite qualifying for it, this year, the number decreased to 60,000. Many believe the reason lies in the high competitiveness of the exam.
This year, the number of OCI/PIO candidates has doubled to 796 after the Supreme Court’s order to consider the OCIs and PIOs as Indian nationals. From next year, these students will have to appear for JEE (Main) as Indian nationals.
