NEW DELHI: Delhi University will give admission to students into PhD courses through the Common University Entrance Test (PhD) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the upcoming academic year, officials said on Friday.
This will be the first time Delhi University will permit admission into the PhD courses through a common test and not through written tests and interviews.
The decision was taken at the Executive Council meeting, where a battery of resolutions was approved, including the 5-year LLB course.
“PhD admission will be done on the basis of CUET (PhD)-2023 based on the recommendation of the Standing Committee of the Academic Council, after deliberations on various matters related to admission and attendance of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD programmes for the academic session 2023-24, the same was also accepted by the Executive Council (EC),” a statement by the university said.
DU began taking admission into UG courses via CUET-UG in 2022 and will be admitting students into PG courses via CUET PG.
The entrance test will be through the CUET (PhD)-2023 conducted by the NTA. However, individuals employed in teaching and non-teaching posts within the university are eligible to participate in interviews directly, as confirmed by the officials.
“Teaching and non-teaching staff may be permitted to attend classes and take examinations without affecting the duties assigned during office hours. These rules for PhD will be applicable from the academic session 2023-2024,” it added.
In addition to this, the Academic Session 2023-2024’s eligibility criteria and seat allocation recommendations for undergraduate courses (MBBS/BDS) by the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) were approved during the EC meeting. Furthermore, admission to the Respiratory Therapy program for MSc will also be conducted through CUET (PG)-2023.
