GUWAHATI: Assam class 10 results have shown a sudden upsurge in pass percentage by about 14 per cent. The results were declared at 10 am on Monday.
The pass percentage dropped to 56.49 last year- one of the lowest in recent years. This year however the pass percentage stood at 72.69. The pass percentage of boys was recorded to be 74.71, while that of girls was 70.96.
The results declared by Board of Secondary Education Assam (Seba) has been better than pre-Covid times when the pass percentage was 60.23 in 2019.
This year, total 94,913 candidates passed with first division, 1.48 lakh with second division and 58,394 with third division.
Of the 4.15 lakh candidates who appeared in the examination, 3.01 lakh passed.
Hridam Thakuria of Sankardev Shishu Niketan, Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district is the state topper. He scored 596 out of 600 marks.
Total 8,517 students secured distinction marks (510 and above) in the state, while 18,653 got star marks (450 and above).
Once insurgency ravaged Chirang district made a massive turn around and topped the district-wise pass percentage tally with 88.68 per cent. Over 5000 candidates appeared from Chirang, which used to settle towards the bottom of the tally till few years ago.
In 2021, when the exam was cancelled and results were declared based on school-based evaluation, the pass percentage touched 93.10 — best in Seba’s history. This was an increase by close to 20 pass percentage from 64.80 recorded in 2020.
