LUDHIANA: While majority of the school students, would like to go for a trip to the hill station or abroad to have fund time in the vacations, a Ludhiana based class XII student Ananya Chowdhery, 17 of Sat Paul Mittal School and her cousin Smarthya Bindlish, 15 of Vivek High School, are making best of their vacations by organizing health camps in Rajasthan.
Ananya and her cousin Samarthya in association with Mahabir Prasad Dalmia Jan Seva Trust and Dr. Shroff Charity Eye Hospital, Alwar have been organizing a free eye check-up and cataract surgery camp which started on March 15. In the camp so far, over 550 people got their eyes checked and were given spectacles, in addition over 130 people underwent cataract surgeries, including 2 children, all free of cost.
During the camp, these young children also gave presentations about eye health & eye donation awareness in various schools in Dausa district of Rajasthan, where the majority of the students belonged to underprivileged backgrounds. The teenagers travelled on foot and camel carts to reach the villages that were not accessible by roads.
Earlier, these students had organised free artificial limb replacement camp and hearing aid camp in February 2021 in Mehndipur, Dausa, which benefited over 100 patients who received free hearing aid and 70 patients got artificial limbs fitted. Besides, during the coronavirus outbreak also, the students in association with Bharat Vikas Parishad , Ludhiana had arranged free distribution of ration , clothes , masks and medicines in the city.
